Why our kids bikes are different
Purpose-built bikes for kids — designed to make it easier to balance, start, control, and safely stop. Lightweight, low and stable, with kid-friendly hand brakes (and no pedal brake), yet built to last with quality components that ride better, last longer, and ensure these kids bikes can be passed-on to siblings or resold. Not to mention thoughtful safety touches like lock-on hand grips… and much more.
LIGHTWEIGHT
base bikes are among the lightest kids bikes in the world (our 16 inch bike is only 6.9 kg). A lightweight bike is easier to get on, get off, and ride. This helps kids feel confident, safe, and in control.
They're also easier for parents to carry!
EASY TO RIDE
A low centre of gravity, longer wheelbase, narrow q-factor (the distance between the pedals), and shorter cranks make the bicycle easier to push off, easier to balance, and easier to control.
BUILT TO LAST
These bikes are built to last, ensuring that they can be passed down or resold. With high-quality components such as Pro-Wheel cranks, KMC chain, Tektro brakes and Kenda wheels, as well as small touches like pre-stretched cables, and stainless steel spokes to prevent rust, base bikes retain their value.
BRAKES FOR SMALL HANDS
All too often, kids bikes have brake levers too far away making them hard to reach and hard to pull. Instead, base bikes use micro-reach brake levers designed for small hands. Combined with small diameter grips, everything just feels easier.
TWO HAND BRAKES, NO PEDAL BRAKE
Pedal (coaster) brakes prevent riders from back pedalling to balance and make it difficult to position the pedals in the "start" position. Instead, our kids bikes are equipped with kid-sized front and rear hand brakes, encouraging two-handed braking from the start. Why we skip back-pedal brakes.
