FAQs

Got a question? You're not alone! Whether it’s about training wheels, putting your bike together, or where to check one out in person — we’ve answered the most common questions right here.

If you're still curious or just like to talk to a real human, just reach out — we’re always happy to help.

Are training wheels compatible?

Training wheels can be fitted to the base 16 (16 inch bike). The base 20 (20 inch bike) is not compatible with training wheels.

Standard training wheels available from most bike retails can be purchased separately and attached at the rear axle of the base 16. Most styles should work fine, but please first check with your supplier or contact us.

We sell the Azur training wheels for the base 16.

Can I buy base bikes in a bike shop?

While we’re mostly online, we’ve teamed up with a handful of awesome bike stores – perfect if you’d rather check out the bike in person before you buy! You can find our stockists here.

If you prefer to shop from home, you can purchase base bikes from our website and they will arrive on your doorstep with only minor assembly needed. We also offer free 100 day easy returns, just in case it's not quite right.

The bike is out of stock. When can I order it?

If an item is listed as 'SOLD OUT - NOTIFY ME WHEN IT'S AVAILABLE', it means we currently have no stock and the date for freight arrival is not yet confirmed. Click on the 'SOLD OUT' button and enter your email address to be notified when the item is open for pre-orders.

Pre-orders will generally be available once the freight arrival date in our warehouse has been confirmed. At this time, you will usually be able to make a pre-order and we will notify you once the item has arrived and it is ready for shipping.

Why is a lightweight bike important for kids?

A lighter bike is easier for children to start, stop, and control. It helps them feel confident, reduces fatigue, and makes it easier for parents to carry if needed. A heavy bike can make riding harder to learn and less fun.

What is “Q factor” and why does it matter?

Q factor is the distance between the pedals. A narrow Q factor lets kids pedal with their feet closer together — just like they naturally walk and run. This improves comfort, efficiency, and balance, especially for smaller riders.

What makes base bikes easier to ride than other kids’ bikes?

Our bikes combine a lightweight build, child-specific geometry, low centre of gravity, shorter cranks, narrow pedal spacing, and easy-to-use brakes. This thoughtful design improves balance and control, and makes starting and stopping easier. This helps kids start riding sooner, develop skills quickly, and feel in control from their very first ride.

What tyres do you use and can they handle different surfaces?

We use high-quality Kenda tyres that roll smoothly on pavement but also grip well on grass, gravel, and dirt paths — a perfect all-round option for parks, paths, and neighbourhood rides.
