base bikes - helping kids thrive on two wheels

Parents who value effortless outdoor fun choose base bikes. Assembled from premium components and designed specifically for young kids, our bikes help your child thrive on two wheels.

I’ve reviewed hundreds of kids’ bikes over the past 15 years and as a result, have become pretty picky about kids bikes. After testing both the 16” and 20” base bikes, I can confidently say they deliver impressive quality and ride experience.

Word on the street!

Why base bikes?

LIGHTWEIGHT

base bikes are among the lightest kids bikes in the world. A lightweight bike is easier to get on, get off, and ride. This helps kids feel confident, safe, and in control.

They're also easier for parents to carry!

LOW AND STABLE GEOMETRY

Kids are uniquely proportioned, and their bikes should be too. That's why base bikes feature a low centre of gravity, long wheel base, a narrow q-factor (distance between the pedals) and shorter cranks.

All in all, this makes the bicycle much easier to push off, balance and control.

MADE FOR SMALL HANDS

All too often, kids bikes have brake levers too far away making them hard to reach and hard to pull. Instead, base bikes use micro-reach brake levers designed for small hands. Combined with small diameter grips, everything just feels easier.

NO PEDAL / COASTER BRAKE

Pedal (coaster) brakes prevent riders from back pedalling to balance and make it difficult to position the pedals in the "start" position. Instead, base bikes are equipped with front and rear hand brakes with kid-sized, easy-reach, brake levers to ensure effective control and encourage two-handed braking from the start.

BUILT TO LAST

These bikes are built to last, ensuring that they can be passed down to siblings or resold. With high-quality components such as Pro-Wheel cranks, a Selle Royal saddle, KMC chain, Tektro brakes and Kenda wheels, as well as small touches like pre-stretched cables, stainless steel spokes and brass spoke-nipples to prevent rust, base bikes retain their value.

SAFE

Rest assured, base bikes meet or exceed required Australian safety standards.

With safety features such as lock-on grips that prevent slipping and exposure to the metal handlebar—eliminating a common source of injuries in kids' bikes—combined with easy handling to minimise falls, this bike is designed with your child’s safety as the top priority.
